Let’s Fight with the Demon Diabetes for the benefit of the Masses
New Delhi, November 12, 2010: In a press conference held in the city hotel today, Shakti TV, part of Shakti Bhog Group of Industries today observed World’s Diabetic Day. Present at the occasion were Dr.A.K. Walia, Finance Minister, Govt. of Delhi, Mr. KK Kumar, CMD Shakti TV, famous bollywood actress Amisha Patel, Dr. AK Jhingan, Diabetologist and Chairman of Delhi Diabetes Research Center. With India having the largest number of diabetic patients in the world, the sugar disease is posing an enormous health problem in the India, thereby making India the diabetic capital of the world. These concerns were shared in the press conference today. Moreover, Shakti TV has been addressing concerns on such issues and has completed 52 episodes on how to deal with the demon - Diabetes for the benefit of the masses.
Shakti TV is India’s first health channel and last month only, it completed 5 years of its eventful years. During this span of time thousands of health related TV programs were produced and telecasted for the benefit of the masses. Out of these programs, one is a 52 episode comprehensive TV series on Diabetes - “Ise Theek Se Pehchan Lo” – the demon diabetes.
This Series is very relevant in today’s context as India is having around 5 crore persons with diabetes which is the highest number of diabetic patients anywhere in the world and thus, giving it a dubious distinction of being the diabetes capital of the world. The sugar disease has already posed an enormous health problem in the country and is very severely handicapping its human resource because gone are the days when Diabetes-II struck people in their advanced ages. Now, it is striking even the youngsters and the people in their most productive years of life. And this is a very serious matter because it is here where national interests are being worst hit. In other words we can say that diabetes is getting younger by the day.
It is in this context, Shakti TV’s untiring efforts in creating, producing and telecasting a comprehensive 52 episode TV series on Diabetes - “Ise Theek Se Pehchan Lo” – the demon diabetes assumes greater significance particularly because this series is creating comprehensive awareness about the disease so that people can manage their diabetes effectively in case if it has already struck or how to keep off it all together. This Series has several segments like – KNOW IT WELL, OCTOPUS, DIABETES DOUBTS, IN SPITE OF IT, etc. The segment “IN SPITE OF IT” is very inspiring particularly for diabetics because in this segment different persons are interviewed to show how they are leading a normal life for number of years ‘in spite of diabetes’ just by bringing about lifestyle changes in his or her life.
Another reason to take control of diabetes now is the fact that diabetes is being seen as a social stigma. Would anyone like to understand the agony of a youngster being denied marriage because of his or her diabetic status?
Shakti TV has done well by bringing out this Series on Diabetes which will go a long way in achieving World Diabetes Day campaign slogan’s motto “Let’s take control of diabetes. Now.”
